Explanation of the problematic account of the Nemours incident provided by the French government, May 2 1941

The French government claim that their convoy was attacked by British warships. The British government strongly deny this. Rather, they claim, the French made an unprovoked attack by French shore batteries. The French government claims that the ships were bearing food bound for Algeria, which the UK government deny is a valid excuse.
